Centre, UNNMC sensitise councilors on accountability By Agency Reporter Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Studies, Bayero University Kano (BUK) in collaboration with University of Nigeria Nsukka Muslim Community (UNNMC) on Monday sensitised newly inaugurated councilors in Enugu North senatorial district on the need to be accountable as elected councilors. In a remark, in Nsukka, Dr Mausu Saddiq, Director, UNNMC Anti-corruption Project, said the seminar was to sensitise new councilors to be accountable, transparent as well as fight corruption as elected representatives of the people. " This seminar is sensitise you  on how to be accountable, transparent and fight corruption in the discharge of your duties. "Do your best to fulfil the campaign promises you made to your people and honestly give to them whatever government gives you as councilor to give your people. Our graduates will not be job seekers but job creators - College Provost By Agency Reporter Dr Pauline Ikwuegbu, Provost, Federal College of Education (FCE) Eha-Amufu  Enugu State, says the college's graduates will not be job seekers but job creators. Ikwuegbu disclosed this in the college on Wednesday during a press briefing,  as part of activities lined-up to mark the 33rd convocation  ceremony of the college, that would hold on Friday. She said that, the college would during 33rd  convocation graduates 1611 with Nigeria Certificate of Education (NCE) and 69 with Professional Diploma of Education (PDE) found worthy both in character and in learning. " These graduates of 2017 to 2021 sessions have aquired different skills in addition with their course of studies to enable them to be job creators instead of job seekers. "We are optimistic that they will help to reduce unemployment in the country as they will create employment opportunities for many," she said.

Scholarship : 69 UNN Indigent students get N50,000 cash By Agency Reporter Socour came the way of 69 Indigent under-graduates of University of Nigeria Nsukka,  Delta State origin on Thursday as they received  scholarship award of N50,000 cash each from a philanthropist. Prof Charles Igwe the Vice-chancellor of UNN in a remark Nsukka while presenting the scholarship certificate and N50,000 cash to beneficiaries thanked the donor, Chief Jude Ozah the Isagba of Ogbashi-Uku kingdom in Delta State for investing in education. Igwe who was represented by Prof Uju Muo, the Director of Academic Planning in the university, urged the beneficiaries to use the money for the purpose it was meant for in order to encourage the donor to invest more in education and humanity. "I commend the donor for assisting these indigent under-graduates from his state to enable them to graduate on their course of study. LG poll : Okechi emerges PDP candidate in Igboeze-South council By Agency Reporter Chief Vitus Okechi,on Saturday emerged as candidate for People Democratic Party (PDP) in Igboeze-South Local Government Area, for the February 23, Local Government election in Enugu State . Okechi who is the  Commissioner for Housing in Enugu  State scored   330 votes cast by deligates from  16 wards that made  up the council to emerged as unopposed candidate. Announcing the result, Mr Christian Ani the Leader of Electorial Committee from PDP Secratariate Enugu commended party delegates for conducting themselves in peaceful and orderly manner during the primary. Ani said Okechi polled 330 votes to win, he explained that, PDP deligates in the area was 371 and 331 were accredited and voted  while one void vote was recorded. "In the power conferred on me as The returning officer of this election, I hereby declared Okechi as PDP flag-bearer for Igboeze-South in February 23 Enugu State LG election.

Beneficiaries of Sen Utazi medical outreach grateful, on free surgeries, drugs By Agency Reporter Some residents of Enugu North Senatorial District in Enugu State have expressed appreciation to Sen   Chukwu Utazi representing the district in Senate for free treatment, surgeries and drugs. Residents who benefited from the outreach told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Nsukka on Sunday at Nsukka Town Hall the venue of the outreach that, their health challenges have been treated free of charge. Mr Hycienth Abugu said the hernia that had been disturbing him for a long time had been removed through surgery by team of medical doctors. "This hernia has been disturbing me but because I have no money to go hospital for the surgery. "When l heard about this outreach  organised by Utazi, and treatment, drugs and surgeries are free of charge, l  said to myself God has answered my prayer. "My prayer is that God will meet Utazi at his point  of need for helping the poor.

Law Week : Nsukka NBA sensitises Sec Sch students on dangers of drug abuse By Agency Reporter Secondary school students have been advised to stay away from drug abuse to avoid  untimely death, madness and other adverse effects associated with it. Mr Tommy Akpan, the Assistant Commander Narcotic,  Nsukka Area Command,  Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) gave the advice  in Nsukka on Wednesday During a sensitisation lecture titled   " Avoid Drug Abuse to Stay Alive " organised by Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Nsukka branch for Secondary Schools in the area as part of activities to mark its 2021 NBA Law  Week. Akpan urged students to stay away from illicit drugs like cocaine,  Cannabis,  heroine, Tramadol, Codien and Methamphetamine or Crystal Meth popularly called ' Mkpuru Mmiri' in igbo.
