FG restates commitment on climate change mitigation, to ensure soil productivity

By Agency Report The Federal Government has restated its commitment to climate change mitigation to ensure soil productivity and food security in the country. Dr. Ernest Umakhihe, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development disclosed this  in Nsukka on Saturday in a keynote address. During the Soil Science Society of Nigeria (SSSN) 47th Annual conference held at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). With the theme "Tropical Soil and Water Resources Management: Climate Change Mitigation for Functional Ecosystem Services and Food Security," Umakhihe said that, all the technical departments in the ministry take issues of soil serious in the pursuit of their vision to prevent soil pollution and degradation. UNN professor, to give Nigeria steady electricity supply within 24 months

By Agency Report Prof. Emenike Ejiogu, the Dean, Faculty of Engineering, University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) says he can  inject 7,000 megawatts of electricity across the 774 local government areas to achieve steady electricity supply in the country. Prof. Ejiogu  a professor of electrical engineering and the Director, Africa Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Power and Energy Development (ACE-SPED). Disclosed this in Nsukka on Thursday while delivering the 190th inaugural lecture of UNN titled "My Engineering Odyssey: Energy Security, Energy Sustainability and Bringing Power to the People." Enugu lawmaker trains 800 farmers on how to produce organic fertilizers, pesticides

By Agency Report No fewer than 800 farmers in Igboeze-South State Constituency have been trained on how to produce different organic fertilizers and pesticides they will use in their farms. In a remark on Thursday in Nsukka during the one day training at St Mary's Catholic Church Ibagwa-Aks Igboeze-South Local Government Area of Enugu State. Mr Harrison Ogara, the Lawmaker representing Igboeze-South Constituency in Enugu State House of Assembly said that, he decided to organise the training so that farmers would benefit and have bumper harvest in their farms at lower cost. Ogara said that, he invited experts from Southfield Agro Network International and Enugu State Agricultural Development Programme (ENADEP) to train farmers on how to produce organic fertilizers and pesticides as well as know how to test their soil farm. UNN-VC flags off construction of World Bank Centre of Excellence building

By Ikemefuna Ikem Prof Charles Igwe, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has flagged off the construction of a two-story building of the World Bank-funded Africa Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Power and Energy Development (ACE-SPED) in the university. Flagging off the building construction on Thursday in Nsukka, the VC commended the World Bank for selecting UNN proposal among others for the establishment of the ACE-SPED. He said that the university will use its manpower to ensure that the objective of the centre which is aimed at providing solutions to the problems of energy and power with local content is achieved. "I'm happily flagging off the building project of the Centre, I implore the contractor handling the project to complete it at the specified period.
