The Nsukka Town Youths Association (NTYA) says, it will  sponsor the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) 2024 Unified Tertiary Maticulation Exam (UTME) registration fees, for 123 indigent candidates from the area.

NTYA is an umbrella body of youths groups from the nine autonomous communities  that made up Nsukka Town, in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Comrade Onyekachi Omeje, the President of NTYA  disclosed this in Nsukka on Thursday while briefing newsmen.

Omeje said that, the gesture was to remove the financial barrier to education for brilliant indigent candidates in the area as well as to contribute to the educational growth of the community.

"To the glory of God, NTYA will sponsor 123 indigent candidates from the villages in our community to receive free UTME registrations.

"This initiative is to empower, support and bridge the financial barrier to education for the deserving individuals.

"It will also help to actualise their hopes and dreams to pursue their respective courses in tertiary institutions," he said.

According to the youth president,  the association's Grand Patron, Patrons and some wealthy individuals in Nsukka town have indicated interest to sponsor the initiative.

"We invite all eligible candidates to Nsukka Town Hal, from January 27th to February 14th, 2024, 3pm till 5pm daily for screening.

"Candidate must be an indigent student from any of the villages in Nsukka Town.

"I appeal to all and sundry in Nsukka to join NTYA in our efforts to uplift and empower our youths," he said.

Omeje disclosed that, NTYA had put measures places to ensure that the selected candidates received extramural free classes and  computer training to ensure they made good scores that would enable them to secure admission to study their chosen courses.

Our reporter gathered that the registration fee for 2024 UTME is N7,700 inclusive of mock examination and N6,200 without mock examination.
