ASUU-UNN protests FG's inability to implement agreements

...supports Nationwide strike after expiration of ultimatum  By our reporter The Academic Staff Union of  Universities, University of Nigeria Nsukka (ASUU-UNN), on Thursday, staged a peaceful protest to bring the attention of the Nigerian public, to the inability of President Bola Tinubu-led Government to implement agreements it reached with the union. The union warned of impending industrial unrest if the federal government refused to act on all their demands after the expiration of their 21-day ultimatum. It will be recalled that ASUU had charged the government to act within three weeks to address all their outstanding demands bothering on the renegotiation of the 2009 ASUU/FGN Agreement, poor funding of the universities, breach of university autonomy, particularly by the Integrated Personal Payment Information System (IPPIS), non-payment of Earned Academic Allowance (EAA), among others, or they will embark on a nationwide strike. Institute trains Nsukka farmers, others on Climate-Smart Agricultural practices

By Our Reporter The Nigeria Institute of Soil Science (NISS), on Wednesday, trained farmers, extension agents, and community advisors in the Enugu North Senatorial District on Climate-Smart Agricultural (CSA) practices and soil fertility management to promote food security. The training workshop with the theme "Enhanced Research Aids on Climate-Smart Agricultural Practices to Promote Food Security," was facilitated by NISS's South East Zonal office domiciled at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). Participants who were selected from across the six local government areas that made up the Nsukka zone (Enugu North Senatorial District) were conducted around experimental/research farms in the university for a practical display of the positive impact of the CSA on crops. Prof. Charles Asadu, the South East NISS Zonal Coordinator said that CSA is an approach for transforming and reorienting the agricultural system to support food security under the new realities

VC inaugurates World Bank ACE-SPED core building in UNN

By Agency Report Prof Charles Igwe, the   Vice-chancellor, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) on Friday inaugurated the Africa Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Power and Energy Development (ACE-SPED) two-story  core building. ACE-SPED is World Bank grant supported by French Development Agency (AFD project in UNN. Igwe applauded Prof Emenike Ejiogu, the Director of the Centre who attracted the grant in the university for the project. "I am happy today (Friday) inaugurating this project as one of the projects to mark the end of my successful 5-year tenure that will end on June 10 "I commend Ejiogu for attracting the grant to build Africa Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Power and Energy Development in UNN, aimed at providing solution to the problems of energy challenges in the country in particular and Africa in general," he said. Nsukka youths protest alleged plan by UNN-VC to install successor secretly

By Our Reporter No fewer than 1000 youths from Enugu North Senatorial District of Enugu State on Wednesday protested what they alleged to be a secret plan by Prof. Charles Igwe, the outgoing Vice-chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)  to install his successor secretly. The youths who started the peaceful protest from Total Roundabout, Nsukka, through the university road to UNN main gate, were heard chanting, "Igwe why did you cancel the UNN  Senate meeting fixed today to select the person that you will hand over to". The youths were also bearing placards with different inscriptions such as; "VC hand over to the most senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor. "Why was the special senate meeting scheduled today cancelled? Former CP appeals to Gov. Mbah to rescind decision to demolish Nsukka market

By Agency Report A retired Commissioner of Police, Chief Sunny Ngwu has  appealed to Gov, Peter Mbah to have a rethink on the planned demolition of part of Ogige Main Market, Nsukka, in Nsukka local government Area of Enugu State. Enugu State government had recently marked some parts of the market for demolition to pave way for the planned construction of Bus Terminal by government and has given affected traders ultimatum to vacate the market. Government directed owners of the affected shops to submit their documents for verification and possibly compensation by government. Herdsmen killings: Farmers desert farms in Nimbo, says Sen Utazi, urges govt urgent intervention

By Agency Report Sen Chukwuka Utazi who represented Enugu North Senatorial District from 2015 to 2023 in Senate says as result of constant killing of farmers in Nimbo, in Uzo-uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State by suspected herdsmen native and migrant farmers in the area have deserted their farms for fear of being killed.
