I attracted many asphalt roads, empowered many people, if re-elected I'll do more - lawmaker

As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gears towards primaries ahead of 2023 general elections, the member representing Nsukka West State Constituency in Enugu State House of Assembly, Dr. Emma Ugwuerua  has solicited for support from the party for his re-election in 2023.

Ugwuerua who is the chairman House Committee on Judiciary, Public Petition, Ethics and Privileges
made the call on Sunday at Nsukka PDP party office while declaring his intention to be re-elected in 2023 general elections.

He said during his tenure the constituency witnessed many transformations as many roads were asphalted, magistrate and high courts reconstructed to complex, standard stadium built, and many sons and daughters of the constituency empowered.

"Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi   restructured and repositioned the Magistrate and High courts in Nsukka, constructed asphalt and RAMP roads, built standard stadium as well as empowered our sons and daughters through various political appointments.

"The constituency has never had it so well, I  attracted  employment for some constituents, providing for the less privileged ones, uplifting the education needs of the people through award of scholarships, provision of writing materials to pupils as well as organizing workshop for teachers," he said.

The lawmaker said if re-elected in 2023 he would do more because of the love and care he has for the constituency.

He commended the party leadership in Nsukka LG led by Mr Fabian Onah, his good performance by carrying all party members along.

Ugwuerua however expressed concern that despite the existing tradition for power sharing in Nsukka LG, that many aspirants from other areas of the constituency already occupying elective positions  some in that same area were eyeing the house of assembly seat  meant for his area

"House of Assembly seat is the only elective position left for Nsukka West Development center (Ovogovo).

"Former house of Assembly members in the constituency served for two terms , I should be allowed to also serve two terms as my own will not be an exception,'he said.

The lawmaker expressed appreciation to Chief Walter Ozioko, Chairman of Nsukka LG, stakeholders, party faithful, friends and well wishers who came to witness his declaration in the party office and promised he would never disappoint them.

Speaking, Ozioko , the Nsukka  LG boss commended the law-maker for effective representation, stressing that he has done well. 

“Hon. Ugwuerua is a responsible and responsive person whose representation in the house has yielded positive results. It is our prayer that his desire to return to the house in 2023 is achieved.

"PDP in Nsukka is one and will support whoever gets the candidacy ticket of the party for the election”, he said.

He reiterated the resolve of the PDP stakeholders in the local government that “wherever Governor Ugwuanyi says he is going, is where we are going.

"Every party faithful in Enugu State should work towards the success of the party in the next general elections," Ozioko said.

In a remark Onah, Nsukka party chairman,  said that party would provide a level playing ground for all aspirants before and during  party primaries.

He however, applauded Ugwuerua for his good performance, saying his quality representation is felt by everybody in the constituency.

NAN reports that, the lawmaker was accompanied to the party office by huge crowd.

Some personalities present include; Princess Nkem Oloto, Hon. Onyema Idoko former Nsukka  LG chairman, and Barr. Paulinus Eze among others.
