Eid-el-Fitr : UNN Chief Imam urges Nigerians to embrace love, forgiveness

Dr. Abdulmuminu Isah, the Chief Imam,  University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) Central Mosque has urged Nigerians to embrace  love, respect and forgiveness  for one another  especially during this post general elections period.

Isah gave the advice in Nsukka on Friday in a homily during the Eid-el-Fitr service to mark the end of this year's Ramadan fasting.

He said that, Nigerians should respect one another as well as constituted authorities in the country in order to move the country forward.

The Imam admonished Nigerians that felt grieved in on way or the other to use the court which remained the legitimate means to seek redress

"There is need for love and forgiveness, especially during this post election period, we should love and forgive one another to move the country forward.

"Nigeria should embrace good neighbourliness as well as respect constituted authorities.

"We should always pray for our leader, because if our leader are good, citizens will  benefit  and if they are  bad, citizens will suffer," he said.

The Imam noted that,  the Eid-el-Fitr marked the end of one month fasting, prayers and other acts of worship by Muslim faithfuls as recommended by Islam.

"The essence of Ramadan fasting is to ensure  increment in consciousness and fearing of God's punishment, the fast teaches Muslims to be involved in doing good things everytime.

"It also  teaches Muslims to avoid all act of violence, evil, and anything that has to do with infringing in other people's right.

"During Ramadan, Muslims fast from sun-rise to sun-set, and tEid-el- Fitr signals the end of Ramadan fasting," he said.

The Imam explained that during the Eid-el-Fitr, Muslims were expected to give food and gifts items to their neighbors especially the poor.

"It is expected that Muslim faithfuls  give out foods and gift items to the poor ones during this ceremony, as this act of charity is the highlight  of Eid-el-Fitr celebration," he

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Dr. Mansur Saddiq, a Medical Doctor, at  UNN Medical Centre, thanked Allah who made it possible for them to witness the celebration of this year's Eid-el-Fitr after 30-day of Ramadan fasting.

He urged  Muslims,,  to use the lessons they learnt during Ramadan to be in peace and unity with their neighbours irrespective of their tribes, religions or political  party affiliations.

NAN reports that, Mr Yahaya Hassan, Area Commander, Nsukka Police Command and Prof. Abdulmumuni Momoh from Department of Pharmacy UNN, were among those present during the Eid-el-Fitr service
