UNAA installs Ooni of Ife as Grand Patron


The University of Nigeria Alumni Association  (UNAA) has installed His Imperial Majesty, Oonisia, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife as its Imperial Global Grand Patron of the association.

Dr. Linda Agua-Onyekwelu the National President of UNNA disclosed this in Nsukka on Monday while speaking with newsmen, she said the Ooni of Ife who is also the Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) was installed as Grand Patron recently during the UNAA's 108th National Executive Council (NEC), and Delegates Meeting at Ojaja Resort and Industrial Hub, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Agu-Onyekwelu said that the association decided to award Grand Patron to the Chancellor because of his outstanding performance as Chancellor of UNN as well as his numerous contributions to national development.

"The award is to recognise the good performance and numerous contributions of His Royal Majesty in national development.

"As the patron of UNAA, the association will constantly seek his fatherly advice in policies and programmes of the association.

"The association is happy to have the His Royal Majesty as its Grand Patron,  given the respect and integrity he has earned nationally and internationally," she said.

According to the National President,  the theme of the UNAA's 108th  NEC meeting was "Nigeria's Natural Resources and their impacts on her National Economy."

Responding while being installed as Grand Patron of UNAA, Oba Ogunwusi eulogised the leadership and good conduct of members in promoting the ideals and visions of their alma mater.

The Chancellor promised to give advice and support to UNAA, whenever the need arises.

"I am overwhelmed and humbled that you find me worthy to be your grand patron and by God's grace, I  will do my best to ensure the association moves to greater heights.

"I commend the good leadership of UNAA and urge her to keep it up" Ooni said.

Imo State is over due, to occupy the position of VC in UNN - Commissione

Don kicks against implementation of Oronsaye report

By Agency Report Prof Jonah Onuoha, former Head of Department Political Science, University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) says the present economic hardship in the country is not the best time to implement the Steve Oronsaye Panel report of 2012 that will make many civil service lose their jobs. Onuoha who is the Director, Centre for American Studies in UNN said this in Nsukka over the weekend while reacting on recent approval by  Federal Executive Council (FEC) for full implementation of Oronsaye report.
