Dean says, Auto Mechanic Workshop of the faculty is refurbished to generate more revenue

The outgoing Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) Prof  Emenike Ejiogu,  says the Auto Mechanic Workshop is refurbished to be one of the sources to generate revenue for the faculty.

Ejiogu said in Nsukka on Thursday during the valedictory Board Meeting/handover to the new Dean, Prof Ikechukwu Ezema and end of his tenure party.

He explained that the faculty has been repositioned to be financially self-sustaining to generate revenues from various sources in order to guarantee seamless running of its activities.

"The workshop has been expanded and refurbished to serve as a source of generating revenue for the faculty,"he said.

Prof. Ejiogu who is also the Director, Africa Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Power and Energy Development (ACE-SPED) disclosed  that the faculty’s Journal has been classed as one of the top three journals in the world, adding that it would be source of  generating more revenue for the faculty.

"Our journal is now indexed in Scopus Scimago,  many articles will be coming from all over the world for publication in the journal because it is now regarded as a high level academic journal

“Our NLNG Laboratory which the Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas company donated to us, there are much equipment there that the faculty can use it to engage in commercial testing and characterization of materials for industries that is also another source of income for the faculty.

"During my tenure the Faculty Board passed a resolution to establish a Consultancy Unit in the faculty where all the departments will partner to offer consultancy services to clients, this is also another source of income for the faculty.

"With all these sources of revenues, the faculty has been repositioned in such a way that dean of this faculty will no longer spend thier personal money to run the activities of the faculty like it was in the past ,”Ejiogu said.

Ejiogu also disclosed that  among othe achievements of his tenure was adding of another three new departments with the approval of UNN management to the existing eight departments, now the faculty has eleven departments 

The outgoing Dean commended all who worked with him especially the Associate Dean of the faculty Dr Sunday Ezeoha, whom he said was responsible for all achievements of his tenure and urged them to give the new Dean the same cooperation and support.

He also said that 20th Herbert Macaulay Memorial Lecture (HMML) attracted a Regional Centre for Artificial Intelligence and also a Centre for Digital Twins to UNN
The outgoing Dean noted that, on  international collaboration, the Faculty initiated and anchored several MoU, among which is the MoU on Aerospace Engineering, with OKB Fifth Generation of Russian. 

This collaboration he said is  expected to foster research and innovation at UNN in the area of Aerospace Space Engineering, with applications in satellite communication systems, weather forecasting among other things.

In a remark, the new Dean of the Faculty, Prof Ezema, pledged to remain committed in consolidating the achievements of his predecessor.

Ezema applauded  the super performance of Ejiogu in the last two years as the Dean of the faculty

 He solicited for support of staff and students of the faculty , pledging to run an open door policy that would carry everybody along.

Our correspondent reports that, academic and non-teaching staff of the faculty who spoke during the event applauded the outgoing Dean for his numerous achievements that have transformed the faculty and improved the revenue base of the faculty
