Thanksgiving : Catholic cleric urges elected leaders to fulfill their promises to people

Rev. Fr . Uche Agu of Nsukka Catholic Diocese has urged elected political leaders in the country  to remember  to fulfill promises made to their people during 2023 election campaigns.

Agu said this in Nsukka at St John Catholic Church Ibegwani on Sunday in remark during Thanksgiving service of Chief Mark Obetta, the representative of Nsukka/Igboeze-South Federal Constituency in House of Representatives

He urged Obetta to ensure that he fulfilled his election promises to his constituency as one way to show appreciation to the people of the area.

"The people who elected  you are full of expectations that you will help attract democracy dividends that will improve their standard of living.

" As politicians you must  fear God if you want to succeed in politics," he said.

He urged elected leaders and other public office holders to fulfill their campaign promises so as to command the respect and confidence of the people.

"The promises you made to the electorates during your campaign is what made the people to chose and voted you to power.

"It is very important you fullfil this promises to maintain the trust, confidence and respect the people have in you.

"As a leaders and a public office holders you must have compassion and sympathy to the people, feel what they are feeling at all time .

"And have it in mind that the masses are waiting for the good infrastructures and that will improve  their standard," he said.

The Catholic Priest however urged the people to always support and
pray for their leaders.

He described  Obetta as a good person who had empowered so many people and contributed much to  the church in the area. This is why 31 catholic priests many priests from other churches were present in this thanksgiving.

In a remark, Obetta thanked the constituents for their prayers and support to him assuring that he would fulfill all his promises as well as attract democracy dividends to the area.

"I thank the good people of Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency for their love and support to me before and after the last general election.

"I want to reassure you all that I will  my doors will always be open to carry everybody along.

"I also thank you all in joining me to show Almighty God my deep appreciation for not just giving me victory but guiding and protecting us throughout the campaign period," he said.

NAN reports that, Obetta of Labour Party succeeded Mr Patrick Asadu of People Democratic Party who stayed 16 years in House of Representatives

Some dignitaries that attended  the thanksgiving include ; Chief Chijioke Edeoga, the Governorship candidate of Labour Party in Enugu State in 2022.

Sen Okey Ezea, Sentor representing Enugu North Senatorial District, some lawmakers in National Assembly, among others.
